Newbie page? And DRM disclaimer in terms of service...

Hi guys,
I am a newbie here so I apoligize if this is not the correct forum. I have 2 very simple questions though:
1) Is there a newbie website/page explaining how an author of an a-book like myself can setup and get my e-book available on this service? One that show how we convert from our source file (in my case a .doc or .pdf), if hyperlinks and color images can be used in the file, etc.
2) Looking at #10. in the Terms & Conditions sated on this site:
"10. Technology. You acknowledge that we will be entitled to utilize DRM technology in connection with the distribution of Digital Books **but are not obligated to do so**. Accordingly, there may be no technology or other limitation imposed by us on copying or transfer of any Digital Book we distribute."
It clearly says that they are not obligated to use the DRM when distributing the e-book. Doesn't this worry anyone? If they can't guarantee or back-up what they are suppose to be doing, then what is the point? I'm really not getting it here? Do you think that they include this statement to cover their asses (pardon my French) in case the net community finds a hack/way to override the Digital Copying Protection?
Are there other (cheap) alternatives for what I want to do?
Thanks,
Dan

Jeff Bezos was interviewed on the Daily Show last night. He was talking about the Kindle 2 release. During that interview he said that each author is given choice as to whether DRM will be applied to their title.
I wonder if that only applies to the "big boys"

If you know the answer, why don't you simply answer the question, and save the guy a few hours of time.
That's why these Community *Support* forums exist, isn't it? So knowledgeable people can help the beginniers save time, by offering their experience?
At the very least, instead of saying, Start here, say, here's the exact paragraph you need to read. It's located at this exact URL.

From what I can tell in my testing the last few days, books published through the DTP are not DRMed. On the ones I tested I was able to change the extension to .mobi and load the file in Mobipocket Reader. That means there is no DRM built into the files. I get the impression Amazon might have made their job a bit easier by just putting the DTP books through the same converter that they send personal documents through. That would explain the lack of DRM. Any thoughts, dtpadmin? Anyone else able to confirm this with books you have created or bought?
As for whether that is good or bad, well, that is usually a personal decision. I suggest you read the DRM primer on Teleread for an informed overview:

Cool. I had assumed that the AZWs would be encumbered by default, and I was worried that I saw no way to turn it off. Looks like I won't have to worry about that.
