This is an image inside the book, and not the cover, right?

What happens? You get a blank image or a 'not found' message when you preview the book?

Basically, the way it works is that you name the image something like image.jpg. Where you want it to appear, you go [IMG SRC="image.jpg"] only using angle brackets instead of square ones.

Then you get archiving software from somewhere, zip the document file and the image jpeg together, and upload them as a single file. Did you do that?

I think what you would have to do is create the book on your desktop, perhaps using Mobipocket Creator, and then email the file to your select group of readers, who would then have to move the file onto their Kindles. I've never done this, so I don't know how well it works, but evidently it's possible. You would have to assume some small measure of computer literacy on the part of your readers.

Do you have the same cover etc on the Mobi edition and the one uploaded through the DTP? Why is the file size different? I didn't notice that when I had the two versions on the Kindle store.

One reason I shot the Mobi edition was that Amazon seems to privilege Mobi over the DTP, and it linked the print edition to the Mobi one instead of the DTP version.

Yes, I had no problem whatever with being paid by Vendor Central. I got paper checks, and there seemed to be no minimum--some were under $10.

I've sold quite a few through Mobipocket's website, but not many through their retail outlets. I keep them on Amazon - sometimes readers get confused, especially with the different file sizes, but it's like 2 ads and updating the description or making changes to the price are so simple. I find that Vendor Central pays like clockwork just like DTP does.

Yes, but you know what I mean - Amazon doesn't really do anything with Mobipocket. It's just there, like a bump on the road. lol

Yes, I have checked it out - you are correct it works great. All that's missing is the Kindle app for BB. Perhaps Amazon is in the process of working something out?

I haven't had much time to read lately though - too busy writing. I have a paperback that I've been trying to read for the last two weeks - it is one of Mumia Abu Jamal's books, and none are published as ebooks or on Kindle. He is an excellent writer though.

Book conversion and DRM

Hello,

I've got a question about DRM. When you upload books to Amazon Kindle library you can choose whether to use DRM for particular book or not. I am thinking to start a pilot project for a group of people, who would be provided with 50 Kindles fully equipped with books. These books will be converted to e-books and uploaded by myself. How to protect them to be read only on these 50 Kindles?

Do you have any suggestions? Is there any way to accomplish that?

Thank you

I'm a first time publisher and found that I didn't want to spend a lot of bucks buying software. I have a copy of MicroSoft PowerPoint so I downloaded a couple of pictures from the Internet and created a PP slide then saved it as a jpeg file. From there it was easy to upload as a book cover. You'll have to play around with the pixels to get the right size but with a little experimentation you should have success.
