ssapmoc,

You are correct in that if you upload color images, they will display as B&W on the Kindle device itself.

I'm not sure how you are uploading your images and there are a number of ways to do this. If you are uploading an html document, you may want to check the code to verify there is no path specified in the image tags and then also verify that the images are included in the zip file.

Another way to do this is to create a mobi file using mobi pocket creator which will ensure the images are properly embedded.

Good luck!

Raj,

What you are experiencing is a common occurrence if you are purchasing through one of the international portals. Amazon will tack on some additional fees to cover their costs for VAT or other taxes and fees that they incur.

Hope that helps,

Astabula,

There actually are some checks that Amazon uses. One is they check to see if the item being published to the Kindle Store is already in their catalog as a paper book. If so, they will see if the publisher/author matches the account and information that is uploading the Kindle version. If their is a mismatch, they will indeed challenge the Kindle version and ask for some additional documentation.

Good luck!

Sounds like a browser issue.

1) Depending on your screen resolution, you may need to check if you need to scroll down to see if you can see the "confirm" button (had this happen to a client of mine).
2) Try clearing your browser cache.
3) Try a different browser. We have found Internet Explorer to be most problematic with the dtp tool, which is why I now use Google Chrome.

Good luck!

This is a huge topic and literally volumes could (and are) devoted to it. I will pass on one specific piece of advice that has helped me: join a professional authors or publishers association which will help you with getting the resources you need to promote your book. I happen to be a member of the Small Publishers Association (you can Google them) and have found them to be particularly helpful.

Good luck!

Re: Kindle vs. iPad: no contest

I disagree with the premise of the article for several reasons which I will outline below. First of all, I own several e-reader devices for my business so that I can do quality checks for the books I produce on each of them: Kindle2, iPad, and iphone. Each device has its strengths, but the iPad is NOT a kindle killer and here is why:
-- the iPad is simply heavier (denser). Both my wife and I fight over who will get the Kindle to read before going to bed. She usually wins. The Kindle2 is so much lighter and easier to handle that it is the much preferred device to bring to bed with you (unless you like curling up with a small laptop).
-- Price point. Far more folks will be willing to spend $259 for the Kindle2 than shelling out north of $500 if they simply want an e-reader. And I do say north of $500. Yes, I only paid $499 for my iPad, but when you include the case, stand, keyboard, etc, add on another $200. And if you go with the 3G model, expect to be shelling out some coin every month. Kindle users don't have that problem.
-- Outdoor use. The iPad is virtually worthless outdoors. Why? because the sunlight washes out the screen. Not a problem with the e-ink based Kindle.

Yes, the iPad has its strengths which I won't go into here. I like mine very much. But, is it going to stop Kindle device sales? No way.

Happy e-reading!
John
