No, there is no facility to automatically convert books that are in the "search inside" or "look inside" programs to a reflowable text Kindle format.

You are right, cub, in that the source of the search inside/look inside feature is an embedded pdf.

BTW and FWIW, I don't know what you mean by "absolute rights". I am not familiar with that as a legal term or concept. This is why you need to read the distribution agreement to fully understand any rights you grant, and those you retain.

I recommend you review the Distribution Agreement, specifically section 5.5, so you understand the rights that you are granting Amazon and the rights that you retain.
In part it reads, "You hereby grant to us, throughout the term of this Agreement, a nonexclusive, irrevocable, right and license to distribute Digital Books as described herein..."

Everyone who publishes Kindle books through Amazon should read the entire distribution agreement (click the "terms and conditions" link at the bottom of this page). Neglecting to read this agreement is at your own peril. Trust me on this.

jaramogi,

As cub said, the Kindle uses "reflowable text" so, really the concept of "pages" or a "page count" is meaningless.

That being said, there are certainly ways, using html, to format one's book so that it presents a professional and pleasant display on the Kindle for the reader, and all the while taking advantage of the features that the kindle has to offer.

Good luck on your project,
John

Well the good news is that this title is available through the U.S. portal (and by the way, you don't have to be in the U.S. to access the U.S. based portal. This can be accessed anywhere in the world, you just have to change your regional setting at the bottom of the main page -- Amazon.com).

In terms of it not showing available from your location, there might be some additional wait time for that catalog to update. Did you confirm that you have worldwide rights when you went to publish? If not, that could be a holdup issue as well.

Good luck!

Re: Kindle Cover

If you want to add an image of your cover to the book's product page, you will need to go back into the dtp tool (your book's entry in My Shelf) and go to step #1 and in there you can upload a cover. Make sure and press the Save button and then "publish".

If you want to embed a cover image in your book, you will need to insert the image into the original file (ideally using an html editor) and then zip the html file along with the image file and then re-upload that file using the dtp tool, save, and hit "publish".

All the best to you,
John

You have come to the right place as a first step, congratulations!

There is much to learn here. My suggestion is to go through the "Start Guide" and through the FAQ/knowledge base and then feel free to browse some of the postings here in the community forum. There is a lot of material here, but I would start with the basics and then try your first project using the dtp tool. As you go along, feel free to ask questions here in the forum and we'll do our best to answer them.

Best of luck and enjoy!
