I have 6 books published. (Hopkins Technology, LLC) and I am trying to
publish a 7th.

I changed a price on one of them (The Herbalist) and uploaded a 7th book
(Oriental Medicine). They were both "under review". When Oriental
Medicine went live I downloaded a sample and found that the text was
from The Herbalist even though the cover and ISBN were from Oriental
Medicine.

This had happened before about a week ago. When I uploaded Oriental
Medicine (during an earlier iteration) it changed The Herbalist book
which was live to the text of Oriental Medicine even though the cover
and ISBN were from The Herbalist. So I re-uploaded The Herbalist text
(.zip). It went under review. Then I uploaded Oriental Medicine (.zip)
during another revision. When The Herbalist went live the sample had the
text of Oriental Medicine.

Earlier in the year it had happened again - a buyer of our Plan the
Wedding of your Dreams ... found that the text was from another of our
books: Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Somehow these titles are being crossed in publication. Or when one title
is under review and other title is uploaded, the text also goes to the
title under review. I don't think this happens if only one book goes up
and the rest are Live.

All this time I thought I was simply not being careful when uploading.
But now I realize there seems to be a bug in the dtp dashboard.

[I also emailed this to dtp-feedback]

Thanks for the feedback folks. I suspect that AMZN just does not want to handle all the images in the Preview.

I downloaded the html from the preview block and served it up on one of my servers and it played perfectly with all the images.

So I think I will just publish it, buy a copy, and check it on my K1. Sure wish Amzn would make it easier to check what is published.

PS I tried the spacing with and without the closing slash and decided to dispense with slash entirely. The other 6 books we published are done the same.

I am receiving this message on most (not all) images. I have am uploading html inside a zip that has about 600 embedded images - a large title. I have another six books up that are running fine with the same kind of html img src=xx.gif .

Is this a problem with the Previewer? The title looks fine when I run it on a server.

Thanks John, yes my typical tag is img src = "thispic.jpg"/ and all the referenced images (around 600 of them) are in the uploaded .zip

Some show up, most don't. Does AMZN defer working with images until published?

btw I have tried to publish with a mobipocket .prc but the latest mobi software seems to choke on so many images. That is, it is not reliable placing the image with the proper code and seems to pile up images at the end of the title for some reason.

So I am back to uploading html via .zip file.

In other words, how does an author go about checking what his/her book looks like after corrections to the Published version are made?

1wing - all is clear to me, you explained all very well and thanks.

kreelanwarrior in his (excellent) book says that you can go either way, USB or email. But he says under the heading 'Previewing Your .PRC File': "I personally prefer the latter, because there seems to be some pre-processing done by Amzn's servers - particularly for images - when you email them files for the K that I believer very closely approximates the final DTP publishing process."

The fact remains that the best test of what the buyer sees is whatever comes down to their K from Amzn. You can assume it is the same as what your file shows - fine. But the only way to be sure is to get the copy from A that they are selling to the public - and the only way to do that today is to buy a copy of your book from A. That's just the way it is.

I think we have beaten this horse enough, don't you?
