Digital Text Platform lets you upload and convert your content from several formats. • Zipped HTML (.zip) • Word (.doc) • ePub (.epub) • Adobe PDF (.pdf) • Plain Text (.txt) • MobiPocket (.mobi and .prc)
For best results, we recommend that you upload your content in HTML.
Tip: You can export or save your document as HTML in Microsoft Word, for example.
DTP supports a number of select HTML tags, but most complex formatting options do not translate well to the reader. We also recommend that you use only the supported tags for your content and avoid CSS and other formatting inside your HTML.
Zipped HTML (.zip) You must compress all files into a .zip file before uploading, if your HTML content contains images or multiple files.
Important: All the files in the .zip archive must be in a single folder, without any files in subfolders (such as image files). Save your content in the web browser using the Save As Web Page (Complete) option or similar, which will include any images on the page. Then the resulting files can be put inside a .zip file.
Word (.doc) DTP converts all text formatting to HTML tags and processes images automatically. For this reason, we recommend that you convert Word files to HTML inside Word and make sure the formatting looks good before you upload the already-converted HTML.
If you are submitting your content file in .doc format, the entire book text should be uploaded in one .doc file. To view a sample file with formatting tips, please see the Sample Formatting help page.
ePub (.epub) DTP now supports ePub format files. ePub is a free and open standard for eBooks maintained by the International Digital Publishing Forum.
Adobe PDF (.pdf) DTP conversion may not be ideal for PDF files because of the complex nature of the format and its suitability for print or display.
Plain Text (.txt) DTP converts all text to HTML.
MobiPocket (.mobi and .prc) DTP handles .mobi file formatting and images very well. Note: Only unencrypted mobi files are supported.
Tip: Use the Save As… or Export feature (in the program you used to create the content) to export the contents into .html format, if your content is not in one of the formats listed above.
