Add or Change Product Details

After you click the Add new item button, the Details form appears so you can tell readers all about your content. Fill in as much information as you want, or as little as you think your readers will need. You can also upload a cover image. All of this will appear on your Kindle Store product detail page. You cannot use HTML code or similar markup in the product details.

When you’re finished entering details, click Save entries.

Tip: The progress bubbles above the form tell you what steps you’ve completed for this content. As you can see, at this point step 1. Enter Product Details is “Incomplete,” as are the remaining steps. Fill in the mandatory information in every step of the process to complete them.

Title (required)
Enter the title of your content here. If your content is part of a series, you can enter the series title and/or volume number later.

Description
Like the copy on the inside flap of a hardcover book, the description tells readers a bit about your content.

Authors (required)
Enter the names of the people who contributed to your content, including authors, editors, illustrators, translators, and more. At least one author name is required.

Publisher
Enter your publisher name here. This can be an individual or company name.

ISBN
If your product has an ISBN (International Standard Book Number), enter it here. If not, you can skip this field.

Language (required)
(Defaults to English) Enter the language in which your content appears.

Pub Date
If your content has been published elsewhere previously, enter the original publication date here. Otherwise, the Kindle Store will automatically enter the date the item is being published once everything has been processed.

Search Keywords
Enter 5-7 descriptive keywords to help readers find your content. Separate keywords using commas.

Categories (required)
This information will help interested readers find your content. Choose from dozens of categories, from Antiques to True Crime and everything in between. Each category also contains subcategories to further classify your content. You may enter up to 5 categories.

Edition Number
Use this space to indicate which edition, or version, of your content you are publishing. If this is a first-time publication, enter the numeral 1. If the content was previously published elsewhere and has been edited or otherwise changed, enter the number of this edition.

Series Title
If your content is part of a series of books, articles, or other works, enter the series title here.

Series Volume
Magazines, journals, and works in a series (e.g., series novels) are often assigned volume numbers. If your work has a volume number, enter it here.

DRM
You may choose, on a per title basis, to have us apply DRM technology which is intended to inhibit unauthorized access to or copying of digital content files for titles. Once your title is published, this setting cannot be changed.

Product Image
Upload a cover image here. Cover images can help entice readers to take a closer look at your content. Image must be in TIFF (.tif/.tiff) or JPEG (.jpeg/.jpg) format, and must be at least 500 pixels on the longest side (recommended minimum: 1200 pixels on the longest side). For more details, refer to Amazon's product image requirements.

Change Product Details
You can change your product details any time by returning to the My Shelf tab on the Dashboard.

To change product details:

  1. Click the plus [+] sign next to “Enter Product Details.”
  2. Change your entries or add new information.
  3. Click Save entries.

If your text in Enter Product Details is too long, when you submit the page, it silently fails and anything new you entered (not only product details) since the last save disappears. (Mac OS X 10.4.11 using Safari; text entered by pasting in.)

If you run into this problem the workaround is:
* enter everything but the product information, then submit (to be safe)
* enter the product info again, then hit delete at the end of the text
- it will be truncated to the maximum length
- shorten to fit
