Image and Placement Guidelines for images within your Kindle book's content Digital Text Platform converts images along with text content for upload to the Kindle Store and display on the Kindle and other supported devices. Digital Text Platform can process graphics in the following formats:
• Graphics Interchange Format (.GIF) • Portable Network Graphics (.PNG) • Bitmap (.BMP) • JPEG (.JPG)
Note: Images appear in black and white on the Kindle device.
Image Processing If your content contains embedded images (for example, in a Microsoft Word document), Digital Text Platform extracts images from the content and replaces them with HTML <img> tags. Each image converts to a separate image file, which becomes a part of your content's publication package.

Follow these rules to ensure an HTML image displays at maximum screen coverage:
* An HTML image must be 64 KB or smaller; otherwise, the image may resize. * An HTML image larger than 450 by 550 pixels is always resized by DTP. * An HTML image with an aspect ratio of 9 to 11 automatically displays with maximum screen coverage.
Note: Images do not display accurately when you preview an uploaded file. For instance, larger images may resize or rotate when previewed.
Note: Cover (or product images as they're sometimes referred to) carry separate requirements and are unique from those required for images housed within your Kindle book's content. Please visit DTP Book Cover Image Requirements for more information.
